World of Amistade
The ancestors of the Kalish were once slaves to the Abotchee, a race of powerful beings who by magical means and mental cruelty enslaved sentient humanoids to work as the backbone of their vast world-spanning empire. Eventually, the Kalish slaves developed magical and mental resistance to their masters’ control, and under the guidance of the cosmic temporal deity Chronos and the aid of the White Elves, the Kalish revolted.
The Abotchee though refused to surrender, and in a final attempt to remain in power and crush the Kalish and their new White Elf allies unleashed a cosmic magical force they thought they had harnessed control of. Instead the magical force devastated the planet and the Abotchee’s own race. Thus did the most advanced planet of the universe fall.
The Kalish though escaped with the White Elves back to a magical elven city hidden away in a pocket dimension. This is where the White Elves had taken refuge during the 300 years of human warfare and the final collapse of human rule of Amistade.
In exchange for their liberation the Kalish agreed to help the Whites Elves bring justice, order and peace to Petra and Amistade.
Personality: Kalish are more likely to be friendly than hostile. Charismatic by nature, Kalish have a particular flare for diffusing hostile situations with words and subtle spellcraft as opposed to sharp tongues and destructive magic. When faced with fear or prejudice toward their unique appearance and abilities, most Kalish simply smile and make a serious effort to diffuse any hostile or fearful feelings with honesty and charm.
The Kalish possess keen intellects, but are not ruled by logic. They seek the perfection of their minds, spirits and bodies. They are generally warm and compassionate, but their manners and ways of thinking are alien to the native races of Amistade. Most Kalish are naturally curious when it comes to knowledge and study of foreign cultures.
Kalish prefer not to fight if possible. They are by nature a race that prefers defense over offense. In melee they prefer to stay in the background buffing and aiding the other party members. However if required to protect themselves from physical attack they prefer small and light weapons, or weapons that require finesse. Kalish prefer use Bluff or Diplomacy to outwit their adversaries.
Physical Description: Kalish appear very similar to humans, but they have a grace and elegance that makes them seem almost too beautiful. They are slightly smaller than the average human, and their faces have a slight angularity similar to White Elves that sets them apart from the human norm, but these deviations only make them seem more attractive. Kalish are about 5 to 5-1/2 feet tall and typically weighing 95 to 150 pounds, with Kalish men the same height as and only marginally heavier than Kalish women. Kalish are similar to humans in terms of physical description and musculature, though there are a few notable differences. The most obvious difference is Kalish have only three fingers and a thumb on their hands, and four toes on their feet.
The second most obvious difference is all Kalish have a green Kai crystal on their forehead that gives off a faint glow. All Kalish are born with this Kai crystal in their forehead at birth. As a Kalish matures the crystal will triple in size by the time they reach maturity. The Kai crystal is the means by which Kalish draw and focus cosmic energy from the universe to cast the mysterious Temporal spells their deity Chronos allows them access to.
When a Kalish is slain in battle or dies by other than natural happenstance, their physical body dissipates and their katra/essence enters into the Kai crystal on their forehead. The katra dwells on in the crystal for 12 months before it dissipates as well. This allows the Kalish a chance to be resurrected by a Temporal Adept of Chronos if their Kai crystal is retrieved in time and the proper rituals are performed to release the katra and recollect the cosmic energy to reform that Kalish’s body.
Another distinguishing feature all Kalish have is a golden scale-like pattern emerging from the hairline, and bright amber orange hair even into old age. The last year of a Kalish life their hair turns white as they physical body begins to break down into cosmic energy.
Kalish eyes are larger than human eyes and have no pupil. Instead their eyes are all deep blue, violet or green in color and have a faint glow similar to the crystal on their forehead.
Kalish appear to be thin an frail beings, but they are rather hardy. Instead of blood Kalish have mercury in their veins, which makes them more resistant to cold and heat. Their mercury blood gives them +4 to saves against spells that effect a regular character by causing heat or cold fatigue.
The Kalish lay eggs they incubate to hatch their young, much like lizardfolk. The incubation of a Kalish egg takes 12 months before their young are hatched. Kalish reach adulthood at 22 years of age and pass back into the cosmic order of time and space at 99 years of age.
Kalish typically avoid wearing metal armor because it hinders their nimbleness, and interferes with the flow of cosmic energy used to cast their spells and power their special martial attacks.
Kalish are very much into body piercing and tattoos, especially male Kalsih. Male Kalish typically have several facial piercings and body piercings of silver or platinum. Both males and females typically have at least a third of their bodies covered in Kalish markings and patterns, whose meaning in known only to the Kalish.
Relations: The Kalish are born diplomats and relate fairly well to members of all races until given a reason not to. Most people find Kalish communities to be austere, the disciplined Kalish have few vices, and most donate any extra income to the community in the interests of defense and preservation, so they have few luxuries. They are capable of enjoying life without much in the way of material goods, taking pleasure from the company of their own kin and race. Some races find this admirable, while others simply find it to be disturbing — particularly humans who can’t understand the unselfish bond between Kalish of different social classes. To humans the level of cooperation and lack of conflict seems unnatural.
Most Kalish have a remarkable degree of compassion and empathy, as trite as it sounds, they really do like everyone. There are always exceptions, but the majority of Kalish are always interested in getting to know new people. This trait reflects their natural gift for diplomacy.
Since being freed by the Whites Elves and coming to their aid the Kalish constantly keep a close eye on as many people as they can, to look for any signs of mental manipulation or enslavement. They will physically and magically oppose any race or force that corrupts or degrades mortal beings of good and neurtal alignments.
While Kalish are comfortable with people of all races, they have the most in common with the White Elves. Physically Kalish are similar in build to humans and elves. Emotionally and intellectually, however, Kalish have more in common with the elves. The cosmic energy that flows through Kalish gives them an expanded view of life that is similar to that of the long-lived elves.
Society: The bulk of the members of a Kalish community are artisans, skilled craftsmen, laborers and caravan merchants. They tend to the needs of the community, and produce goods that can be sold and traded along the reestablished caravan routes to raise revenue for their communities. Between Kalish discipline and the ancestral memories of Chronos, Kalish communities contain an unusually high concentration of skilled craftsmen, with most being proficient in one or more trades. Artisans are generally experts, with a smaller number of expert shapers and expert artificers who incorporate their magical talents into their work, but ultimately they are working for the good of the community as opposed to any sort of personal gain.
The four roles in Kalish society are the faithful (Temporal Adepts and Monks), the defenders (Temporal Kensai), craftsmen/artisans, merchants/traders (Rogues and Bards).
Alignment: Kalish are always of good alignment. Lawful Good, Neutral Good and Chaotic Good. They combine a sense of self-discipline that borders on the ascetic with a genuine concern for the welfare of all living things, or at least their souls.
Kalish Lands: The Kalish have not established their own kingdom or territory since arriving on Amistade. Kalish prefer to live in the lands and cities controlled by the elves and dwarves.
Kalish live in small but prosperous communities. Kalish communities are always contained within preexisting cities or rebuilt abandoned towns. Kalish communities are typically isolated. They may be mixed, but are never integrated.
Almost all Kalish live in areas of high magical activity or centers of study. Most live in large cities in the comfort of warm, clean homes, surrounded by overflowing volumes of arcane lore. All Kalish are gracious hosts, but keep their shrines, studies and training rooms locked or hidden away from guests. They better than anyone understand the dangers of magic and what can be done when it is in the wrong hands.
Religion: The Kalish worship a deity called Chronos, and have their own religion called the Temporal Path. The center of this belief system is a universal force of positive cosmic energy the Kalish call il-Yannah, or the “Green Light.” Through meditation and communion with this force, the Kalish continually train to strengthen their bodies and focus their minds for the struggle against the forces of Chaos and darkness that threaten all life on Amistade. The faithful of Chronos, that actively worship him draw their power from the Temporal Path focusing the il-Yannah, or the “Green Light” through their Kai crystals.
Langauage: Kalish speak and write a language called Imperium. Imperium is the main language of the Kalish and spoken openly in their homes and communities. Imperium has its own written form, a flowing, elegant script with many circular letters. Kalish have also mastered Common and Elven, both of which they speak and read as fluently as any human or elf.

Temporal Adepts and Kensai wander the land to collect the Kai crystals of slain Kalish to keep them out of the hands of Abotchee, necromancers and other evil spell casters as a powerful source component for gating and summoning rituals, construct creation and the creation of undead.
Temporal Adepts and Kensai also wander their newly adopted planet defending the innocent and oppressed. Their goal is to stop the Abotchee’s plots and schemes.
Classes: Kalish are fairly restricted in their class selection. Kalish choose from the following classes: Bard, Monk, Rogue, Merchant-Rogue, Temporal Adept, Temporal Kensai
